I somewhat disagree... The domain name definitely plays a roll in your rankings...

Sure, backlinks from High PR relevant sites hold more weight than your domain name... but your domain name can help you get quick rankings and if you had 2 comparable sites but one was keyword rich with a targeted search term... it would get a higher ranking than the other...

Your domain name realestateseo1 is using this technique and I don't think it's because searchers are more likely to click on you because the search term is in the domain name... In fact, people searching are more likely to look at the ranking and the title of the website... having the "1" at the end looks more like a 'knock-off' like someone buying Nikee shoes instead of Nike shoes...

Just my thoughts..

I agree with your premise. Too many new website owners think that the domain name makes or breaks the seo potential of the site. Better to concentrate on quality content. The keyword in the url only seems to have value in low competition niches.

Bill,
That's funny. In reality, you're somewhat right. Like I said in the 3rd to last paragraph, a good URL can be more recognized by the searcher. When you Google "Real Estate SEO" you find this very blog at the top of page 1. The other results don't have the exact words in the domain name. So, searchers are somewhat more likely to click on our domain name because of the words in it.

The point I want to drive home is that the URL itself doesn't get you on page 1 in the search engine results pages. In fact, your URL does NOT affect your search engine placement. Google says so themselves.
